The Cars hit home runs with their first two albums but sadly they then forgot what made them great.
They then abandoned their fanbase for poppy little songs which we all want to forget. The first two albums are still classics to this day.

@grinderman77 this is a weird theory, but since I don't hear it that much, I am wondering if Paulina changed the dynamic. The thing that seems to be lacking from the albums that you are talking about which I see as a dark lurking sort of a longing... well, I always felt like after Paulina, Ric was not the same. Good for him, but it really changed them, to me. She'd probably be called Yoko if she wasn't pretty. Since she was a supermodel, I guess that is why noone acted like they did with Yoko.
